What to look for in a T-shirt bra

  • 3 min read

When most people describe a T-shirt bra, they stop at one word: seamless. And yes, smooth moulded cups are the point, but if seamlessness were the only thing that mattered, every T-shirt bra would feel the same. A great T-shirt bra disappears under your clothes and stays comfortable all day. Getting there requires more than a single construction feature. Here's what to look for:

1. Moulded cups that hold their shape

The defining feature of any T-shirt bra is its moulded foam cup, pre-shaped to create a smooth, rounded silhouette without the need for seams. But not all moulded cups are equal. The best ones retain their shape wash after wash and move with your body rather than against it. Look for cups described as 3D-hemmed or bagged-out at the neckline edge. This detail eliminates any visible rim line under fitted fabric. The Refined 5-Way Convertible Bra uses exactly this construction, with 3D hemmed cups for a clean neckline and bagged-out two-ply wings that sit flat against the body.

2. The lining matters as much as the outer cup

A moulded cup can look smooth on the outside and still feel scratchy against your skin. The fabric lining inside the cup is what you're wearing all day so it should feel soft enough to forget it's there. Brushed fabrics are worth seeking out specifically. The Attitude T-Shirt Bra and the Ultrasoft T-Shirt Bra both feature soft brushed cup linings - a small detail that makes a significant difference across an eight-hour wear.

3. Band construction and what it does to fit

The band does most of the work in any bra, around 80% of your support comes from the band, not the straps. In a T-shirt bra, the band needs to be firm enough to anchor the cups without riding up, but not so rigid that it digs in at the sides. The Ultrasoft T-Shirt Bra uses gel elastics on the band to provide gentle hold without the pressure marks that standard elastics can leave. If you're wearing a fitted top and sitting at a desk all day, this is the kind of detail you'll notice.

For bigger busts, DD and above, the cup construction itself needs to do more work. The Memory Blessed Full Coverage D+ Bra is built specifically for this: 100% memory foam cups that mould to your shape, fully supported smooth wings and a seam-free finish that sits cleanly under fitted fabric. It's the T-shirt bra choice for larger busts who need more than a standard moulded cup can offer.

4. Coverage and neckline: knowing what you need

T-shirt bras come in different coverage profiles and the right one depends on your wardrobe as much as your bust size. Full coverage cups sit high on the bust and are ideal for fitted crew necks, knits and any top where you want complete coverage. For larger cup sizes, D through G, full coverage also means better distribution of weight across the cup, which reduces the fatigue that comes from underwires bearing all the load. Plunge and lower-cut cups are designed for V-necks and lower necklines. The Attitude T-Shirt Bra takes a modern plunge cut, lower at the centre front, making it the right choice when your neckline leaves no room for a standard cup height.

Convertible straps add another dimension. Both the Attitude and Ultrasoft T-shirt bras convert between regular and criss-cross, while the Refined 5-Way Convertible goes further with halter, low-back and criss-cross options, giving you a single bra that works across your whole wardrobe rather than buying separate styles for each neckline.
